THREE-YEAR NOTES TO AID RELIEF PROGRAMS
Full Description:
The U.S. Treasury Department is bringing back three-year notes to help cover the estimated $800-plus billion that will be needed to fund financial rescue programs recently approved by Congress. The government plans to offer weekly Treasury bills, monthly 52-week bills and monthly two-, three- and five-year notes along with 10- and 20-year securities to cover the balance. Officials announced they plan to borrow $550 billion in the last three months of this year and a projected $368 billion in the first quarter of 2009 to help pay for various programs initiated to help quell the global financial crisis.
